«The blue gold of the Lower Engadine» – Exhibition by Rolf Bootz
26 September 2025 to April 2027 | Exhibition vernissage on Monday, 13 October 2025, 5 p.m. in the public areas of the Hotel Belvedere.
Series of paintings «The blue gold of the Lower Engadine»
The Lower Engadine owes much of its successful history to its abundance of water and exceptional water quality. The En (Inn) carries its green, wild waters far into Europe, where it serves as a source of power, a trade route, a water supplier and a natural paradise for humans.
The mineral water springs around Scuol and Tarasp are considered a wonder of nature. Through a kind of ‘leak’ in the earth's crust between Guarda and Prutz, volcanic gases rise from the depths and supply the water circulating there with valuable minerals. These springs have also been used for tourism since their discovery in the 14th century. Even 100 years ago, the towns of Scuol, Tarasp and Vulpera were popular bathing and health resorts thanks to their unique mineral water springs. The springs attracted illustrious guests to the Lower Engadin for drinking cures and mineral water baths. To this day, the mineral water springs are an important part of the holiday region around Scuol. In Bogn Engiadina, at the village fountains and in the drinking halls along a six-kilometre stretch of the River En, more than 20 springs can still be discovered, experienced and tasted.
Inspiration from the artist Rolf Bootz
In his series of paintings entitled ‘Das blaue Gold des Unterengadins’ (The Blue Gold of the Lower Engadine), Zurich artist Rolf Bootz explores in detail the infinite facets of the fascinating element of water. The deeper Rolf Bootz delves into the subject, the greater the challenge of showcasing and artistically interpreting the most diverse aspects, perspectives, traditions and views of nature in symbiosis with water, the blue gold, in all its beauty. 22 pictures, format 130 x 80 cm, acrylic paint mixed media on canvas.
