Exhibition: Silent landscapes - the poetry of the wilderness
In the interplay of light and shadow, the Engadin reveals itself in a different, almost timeless guise. This photo exhibition is dedicated to the impressive landscape of this alpine high valley. Not just in the usual blaze of colour, but in the reduced but all the more intense language of black and white photography.
Well-known peaks such as Piz Lischana, Piz Pisoc or Lai Nair appear both familiar and strange in these pictures. Often taken from unusual angles, they not only show the majestic panorama of the region, but also its hidden faces – the rugged rock faces, the quiet valleys, the windswept slopes.
The absence of colour draws the eye to the essentials: Lines, structures, contrasts. A trace in the shadows, the play of clouds on a mountain ridge or the light sweeping across a mountain flank.
The photographs invite quiet contemplation. They tell of the solitude of the heights, of the rhythm of nature, of the constant change of a landscape that is as wild as it is sensitive. Some images appear almost abstract, others documentary. What they all have in common, however, is a deep connection with the place.
Whether locals who have known the Engadin since childhood or visitors discovering the region with a fresh eye, this exhibition offers a new approach to an old landscape. It is a tribute to the beauty of the mountains and at the same time an appeal to pause, take a closer look and notice the inconspicuous.
The exhibition at the Engadiner Boutique-Hotel GuardaVal will be on display from June 2025 to April 2026.

The photographer – Mayk Wendt
Photographer Mayk Wendt, who has been working in the Engadin for over 23 years, captures the raw, wild side of nature with his camera. Wisps of mist, low-hanging clouds, lonely valleys and craggy mountain flanks.
Wendt discovers the quiet poetry of transience in his pictures. What appears melancholic at first glance reveals an impressive depth and emotional power on closer inspection.
In addition to his photographic work, Wendt runs photography courses for NZZ Reisen, where he passes on his fascination for nature and image composition.
An extended selection of his landscape pictures can be seen in his atelier at Stradun 315 in Scuol. Immerse yourself in the tranquil beauty of the partly unspoilt landscapes.
